New Ideas to Decorate Your Dorm Room

Whether you are a high school senior, just beginning to think about how to decorate your dorm room, or an upperclassman looking to change it up, your dorm room will be your home away from home for the next year. For this reason, you should try to make it as comfortable and pleasing as possible. In such a small space, it can be easy to run out of decoration ideas, but here are some different things to consider that you may not have thought of before.

Use your wall as a canvas. Buy posters or make a design with photos or postcards. You can also try going to an old record store and buying album covers to pin up on the wall. Sports fans can use fan memorabilia. Maps of places you’ve visited or would like to go can also be cool.

Colored chalk can be a great way to add something to the walls. It washes off easily, so you may be able to write directly on the wall. Do some test spots first, though. You can also hang large art paper to cover the walls and go to town with chalk.

Dry erase boards and chalk boards are also great ways to take up wall space and add some color and interest. They are also a useful way to post reminders or notes to your roommate.

Throw pillows and comforters also take up a huge amount of space in your room, so they should be of a color and design that is pleasing to you. Walk through a bed and bath store to get ideas.

Window decorations are also a great way to add some color, especially if you don’t have the best view. Most dorm rooms come with curtains, but they are usually not the most attractive. Adding some curtains that you like will instantly add something to the room.

You can use plants to maintain air quality and provide a relaxing vibe. Lamps can also be really stylish and useful. You can find different sizes for desks or your bedside. You can also find cool older styles at thrift stores and antique shops.

Book ends are good for storage and can also be visually interesting. You can even use old bricks as book ends. The red color and destructed look can be cool if it fits in with your style.

Magnets are another useful and colorful option. Look online for funny magnets or make your own by using a glue gun to stick on anything from buttons to bottle caps.
